MY BASEMENT REMODEL – HOW TO CREATE A WARM & COZY SPACE

The basement is one of the most underrated areas in your house. It has endless potential beyond being used as a dark and cluttered storage space. With a little creativity, you can transform your basement into a space that will increase not only its useability but also the overall value of your home.

One of the best ways to make a basement cozy is by creating an inviting living area. Most people start with furniture and end there. If you want this space to feel like an extension of your main floor, add throw pillows, pictures and accessories just like you would in a main floor living room. A fireplace is also a great way to add warmth to a usually colder space. I chose this electric insert shown below as an easy and affordable option then added natural stone to accent it.

Another big challenge with any basement remodel is lighting. Using recessed LED lights in either a drop or drywalled ceiling is a clean and modern way to enhance the light in this space.

Adding a games room or gym is also a great way to get use out of your basement. I chose to install a vinyl plank in the gym area to create separation without having to build a wall and close off the space.
