OUTDOOR OASIS

No matter how big or small your house is, you can increase your living space by extending it into your backyard. Outdoor living spaces are perfect for entertaining guests or just relaxing with your family.

I recently tackled my backyard and wanted to share some tips on how to make the most of outdoor living space. And who doesn't love a good before and after?!

A two tiered deck is a great way to create separate spaces for living, dining & cooking. Your outdoor space will feel more like an oasis if it has a sense of enclosure. I opted for two privacy screens on either side of the deck. It also helps provide a bit of shade for those extra hot summer days!

Decorating isn't just for the indoors! Adding bright & colorful pillows (I got mine from urban barn), candles and an outdoor rug breaks up the deck's large expanses of wood and adds a personal touch.

Contemporary artificial plants are sturdy enough to withstand outdoor conditions and resist fading for years. If you lack a green thumb, do not have time to maintain a garden or just want a quick aesthetic upgrade this is a great option! I purchased most of mine from home sense!

Last but not least, consider an outdoor fireplace or heaters. I did both! The extra warmth will make the chilly evenings of spring and fall all the more enjoyable and allow you to extend the summer!
