WINTER HOME PREP
Whether we want to admit it or not, winter is right around the corner! I put together a list of tips to get your home ready for the coming months.
Clear eavestroughs of leaves and debris to ensure that water can flow freely through your gutters. This will help prevent icicles and ice dams from forming, which can cause gutters to pull away from the house and create overhead hazards.
Cover the A/C unit to safeguard against snow and ice. Winterizing your central air conditioner also prevents rust damage and keeps critters from nesting inside mechanical parts.
Drain pipes of water and turn off exterior taps to prevent freezing and cracking. Also be sure to remove garden hoses and protect hose bibs with Styrofoam covers.
Disconnect the sump pump hose to prevent freezing and cracking or worse - your pump burning out.
Clean/replace the furnace filter in your central air and heating system. This can significantly improve its efficiency and longevity.
A little prep work now will go a long way to help your home weather the coming storms — literally!
