As most of us will be staying close to home this summer, I wanted to share my go-to local and Manitoba destinations with you! Family friendly, easily accessible and charming destinations are always top of mind when I’m planning. Below are some of my faves!

The Rosé Motel - Inspired by 1960’s California -they are a “Retro Chic” motel located right on the Winnipeg Beach Boardwalk, just seconds away from the water! The Perfect spot for a girls weekend getaway.

FortWhyte Alive- FortWhyte provides programming, natural settings, and facilities for environmental education, outdoor recreation, and social enterprise. Whether you’re taking a day to wander and explore, hiking, walking, cycling, wildlife watching, fishing and more, FortWhyte is the ultimate family destination.

Riding Mountain National Park- Riding Mountain National Park is home to some of Manitoba’s most sought after attractions. Enjoy endless days exploring the natural beauty of the prairies and the sparkling waters Clear Lake. Listen to the sound of howling wolves and bugling elk, spot black bears and bison, and watch the sky shimmer with northern lights. Attractions include camping, horseback riding, sailboating and more.

Skinner’s- Home of the world famous hotdog! Skinner’s is the oldest hot dog venue in Canada! Take a Sunday drive to Skinner’s on HWY 44 in Lockport and enjoy an eat-in restaurant, outdoor patio, drive-thru, and fishing centre!

Bois-Des-Esprits Trail- Best known as the Royalwood River Trail, this is the largest remaining riverbank forest in the city and is situated on the frontline of urban sprawl. What makes it so treasured is that it is still ‘virtually undisturbed’ making it a coveted destination to briefly escape city life while vitally in your backyard.

Rainbow Falls- Located at White Lake Resort, these falls are a favorite stop for photographers and anglers as well as family friendly cliff jumping. This one is a fave in our house!

Little Limestone Lake- A colour changing Lake right at home in Manitoba! Little Limestone Lake is the world’s largest example of a marl lake, which is a calcium carbonate-rich lake. When it’s warm out, the marl forms into calcite and separates from the water, which creates crystals and leads to the turquoise hue in the water (what you find in the Caribbean). As it cools off though, the calcite dissolves which decreases the marl level and turns the water crystal clear. Throughout the year the lake will change colours, and hence the view depends on the time of the year. A perfect destination for family photos.

I hope these help with your planning. Have a great summer!
